Medical Card System, Inc. is the second largest managed care organization in Puerto Rico. MCS has three primary lines of business: Medicare, Medicaid and Commercial. MCS launched its Medicare HMO business in the fall of 2004 to begin offering services to approximately 600,000 Medicare beneficiaries in Puerto Rico. The company is also one of three competitors in the government-sponsored Medicaid program and is the exclusive provider of Medicaid services to over 500,000 members in three municipal regions. In addition, MCS provides commercial health insurance to over 200,000 members through its fully-insured and cost-plus business lines to some of the largest multi-national employers in Puerto Rico, including Baxter, Pfizer, Bristol Meyers, Frito-Lay and Johnson & Johnson.
